Let's Twist Again

$20.00

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make my version of the classic blacksmith’s technique, the pineapple twist. The tutorial is focused on making a cuff but the technique is useful for all sorts applications. Many different design patterns are explained and in the end you’ll understand the principles to make your own patterns. The possibilities are endless. (This is a PDF with many photos and detailed descriptions)

Tools and materials required:

Square wire 7.5 inches long (for my demo I use fine silver at 5mm but sterling, copper, brass or gold would all work and the thickness of the wire doesn’t matter as long as it’s thick enough to hold it’s shape)

Rolling mill (a hammer and benchblock or anvil can substitute for flattening metal)

Vice and vicegrips

Jeweler’s saw with 2/0 blade

Flat file

Sanding stick (coarse, med, and fine)

3M bristle disk (coarse) optional but very useful. Sandpaper, tripoli on a buff, scotch brite pad can be substituted

Anvil or bracelet mandrel

Once purchased you’ll have 24 hours to open the file. If you wait too long just shoot me an email at alex@alexboydstudio.com and I’ll send you another.

I don’t know of any suppliers who make 5mm square fine silver rod, but if you’d like some just email me at alex@alexboydstudio and I’ll mill and ship you some. Price depends on market price of silver.
