In this PDF tutorial students will learn how to take a tablet or slab style stone and make a reversible prong setting. A great source for slabs and tablets is Colorado Gem Works on Etsy and Columbia Gem House which has their own website on the intertubes. 90% of all proceeds go to replacing all the things my new puppy has chewed up or otherwise destroyed.

Materials: ​ (Sorry for the weird formatting. Copy/paste did some strange stuff that I can’t fix no matter how bad my OCD demands it.)

Flat tablet or slab style stone
Sterling silver sheet the same thickness or slightly thinner than the girdle of

the stone if tablet, thickness of stone if slab (large enough that

there’s 5mm extra material around perimeter of stone Sterling silver 16 gauge round wire (enough for all prongs and two jump-rings)

Hard silver solder

Tools: ​Permanent marker

Sticky Wax

Scribe
Sawframe with 2/0 and 6/0 blades

Drill bit (approximately 1mm)

X-acto knife
Needle file sets (2 cut and 4 cut) Dividers

Flat file (0 cut)

Flat/round pliers

Flat pliers

Crosslock tweezers

Titanium solder pick

Flush cutters

Prong pusher

Sanding sticks (180, 320 and 600 grit)

Chain nose pliers
Parallel jaw pliers
Third hand tweezers

Prips flux in a hypodermic bottle (or some other kind of flux for soldering gold and silver and a brush or applicator of your choice)
